The Ben N. Teitel Charitable Trust

Ben Teitel’s parents came to Detroit from Poland and Russia. After his military service in WW II, Ben and Harriett joined her family in ownership and operation of their summer resort on Lake Michigan. Early on, Ben saw the need for affordable housing in the western part of Michigan and, soon after, owned and operated apartment developments. After Ben died, the Harriett and Ben Teitel Jewish Apartments in Oak Park became the first memorial to the couple. Ben’s wish was for his estate to continue his life-long gratitude for the good fortune he enjoyed, out of his love and concern for the Jewish people.

The Ben Teitel Charitable trust also contributed a substantial amount for the construction of the Harriett and Ben Teitel Jewish Apartments in Oak Park and for later expansion of the common areas of the building.
