Sophia Cohen Endowment

The Sophia Cohen Endowment was created in memory of Sophia Cohen, a native of Scotland who lived most of her life in the Detroit area. As a teenager in New York, she was trained as a milliner and worked briefly at the fashionable Himelhoch’s in Detroit before marrying. Sophie was a warm, gracious woman and a terrific cook, baker and hostess. She had a great sense of style and incorporated details such as flowers, beautiful food presentation and decorative touches into everyday living. For this reason, the endowment fund is dedicated to “Quality of Life”—to provide flowers and other special items for holidays and daily life at Jewish Apartments & Services.
